Donat Prekorogja (b. 1999) is a Swiss-Kosovar artist based in Geneva. He holds a BFA from HEAD – Geneva and is currently completing his MFA (work.master) at the same institution. His work has been exhibited at the 9th Swiss Triennial of Sculpture, Galerie Heinzer Reszler, and he has presented a solo exhibition in Geneva at Le Vélodrome.
My eyes have always been drawn to things in motion, in search of those moments when stillness begins to shift. It is through observing seemingly inert objects that I discovered a desire to activate them, allowing details to capture our attention and bring the whole form to life.
My pieces occupy space, transforming it, breaking symmetry or playing with it, proposing incoherence or continuity, always challenging existing structures. They are made of a variety of materials, including machined or reclaimed wood, cardboard and metal, sometimes painted, often untouched.
Drawing from urban and domestic spaces, I explore everyday objects and how familiar shapes can emerge from them, creating narratives that animate what is still. These narratives draw on a multiplicity of techniques, shifts in scale, contrasts in tone, wavering between seriousness and lightness, and languages of form, oscillating between curves and lines.
Through these interventions, I reveal the stange poetry that can emerge from a bent fence, an old wooden chair on a sidewalk, a face formed by stains in the concrete, a solitary lamppost at the end of a street, a table with elephant-shaped legs, a…
