They threw the carcass into the passage, just like that, without ceremony. Cars roll over it, crunch and scrach, the last of its juices seep through the eye sockets, trickle into the veins of the pavement, soak into the cardboard boxes, the no-longer-white rice, the no-longer-good dates, it’s a paradise for the flies, they buzz their joy all down the street, and in the haze of construction dust, scooters, and cigarettes, life sprouts in the heart of a rotting onion.
